^^ My boys also file their nails down naturally on walks on pavement, so I have not had to cut in years. We have missed a lot of walks the last couple of weeks because of weather, so I am watching nails closely.
As long as the nails are not curling under or causing your pup problems walking, the nails should be okay. I think it is more rare for the nails to grow really long straight out, but I have seen it on another Yorkie, who probably could have his nails clipped shorter.
