Senior puppies Hello everyone,
I was sad to read on a rescue site about some older dogs being "dumped" - what an awful word-at shelters due to their age. However, I was happy to read about the wonderful people who rescue and take care of them until they find a forever home with such beautiful people.
My 2 Yorkie girls will be 11 years old in April and 8 years old in March. I love them so very much and they are lively little girls. So much fun! I live in Massachusetts so the poor girls have not been outside much due to the awful weather. On the "good" days I bring to a local PETCO and other pet boutiques to shop and get some exercise. They both have wonderful wardrobes and, in addition, have acquired a large collection of gorgeous sweaters this season! Of course, they always shop for their squeaky toys when we shop.
The older girl, Zofia, was diagnosed with non operable cataracts a while ago. She sees an eye specialist and is on daily eye meds. So far, so good as she still has her sight. My younger girl, Emma, was operated on for a liver shunt when she was about 2 years old and is, thankfully, doing well. She also had a dry eye but with continual care at home and from her eye specialist, her eye is beautiful and she sees well. They are always in my daily prayers for their wellbeing.
Please note that Yorkie Talk was so very helpful to me when Emma needed surgery for her shunt. She was operated on at Tuffs University Foster Hospital for Small Animals. Thanks to all who are kind enough to post good ideas and advice on this site. I hope to see more about older Yorkies though.
I love my 2 girls more than I can say and everyday is such a gift! I pray that all who use this site love their puppies as well no matter what their ages. |
