My Gizmo is sick Hi everyone, My Gizmo has been sick for over a month now. He was waking up at night and "swallowing" as if he had something in his throat. I would give him a lil olive oil and massage his throat. After this happened a few times, I took him to the Vet. That vet said that it was probably something that irritated his throat and it would be fine. I asked if he should be given antibiotic, or should an ex-ray be taken. He said the ex-ray would not be of help and he said that a dogs body has its way of taking care of itself. No antibiotic nec. A week passed and no improvement. I took him to a second vet who took an ex-ray. Nothing showed up in the ex-ray, all looked fine. I mentioned, to both vets, about endoscopy. Both said to exhaust other means(meds) first. I asked him if an antibiotic was in order he said lets try Sucralfate and Pepsid AC first and if that doesn't help then I will prescribe and antibiotic. A week later,no improvement, I took him back to the first vet( he knew the ex-ray would show nothing and saved me $150!). I told him I had gone for a second opinion(had second vet fax over report). He suggested we try an Antibiotic(Metronidazole), an Anti-inflamatory(Clavamox) and Pepsid AC. It's been over a week and very little improvement. This morning he woke up at 4:30 and had soft stool, then some diahrea with pinkish/red blood. Then he deposited a few drops of blood only. Now he is resting peacefully. I am going to call the vet when the office opens today. Any advice/feedback would be appreciate. Thank you all. |
