I think the first thing to do is clarify what kind of crate you are using. I have used wire crates which Teddy escaped from because he is small. He was able to squish himself under the crate and the tray so that was no good! I have used gates which he climbed over. I have used carriers which he escaped from because he rolled himself around in it and broke the door!!!!! BUT, the carrier has been (by far) the most efficient because I was able to manage what he was doing to break it after I found out how he'd done it.


There have been a few times when I've retuned home to find him greeting me at the door with ripped toilet paper, pee up my front door and a wagging tail..lol
