I have "carriers" which are the plastic, hard sided dog carriers for trips to the vet, extended car rides, etc. My "crates" at home where I keep all my dogs crated at night or when I leave the house, are Mid Western Wire Crates....28" x 40" with two doors on the sides as well as the top of the crate opens up. I also have crates that are "Life Stages"...dont remember who makes them, but the floor in the crate is adjustable, so it can be raised up, so I dont have to bend over so far to reach the dog inside. I have an escape artist that actually noses the top corner of the crate up far enough for him to weezle thru the gap, then he DROPS to the floor from 35 inches high.....I almost DIED when I discovered what he was doing!! Now I have 6 clips that I put at the corners to keep the little bugger from being able to pry the top up enough to get out.

I dont know what kind of "crate" you have, but if it is a wire crate, you can always add those clips (like what is on leashes). I dont use carriers to confine mine so I dont know how you would double latch those little wire doors......
