Whenever they smell bad or look dirty, which will vary depending on what they get into, and how "nice" you want them to feel. Like others have said, you can use wipes or a washcloth to clean face, feet and private areas more often. But it is also a good idea to get them used to a bath too.
As adults my girls get bathed once every week so they are clean and smell good, since they sleep on my pillow, and spend a lot of time on my lap.
