I grew up with a 5lb yorkie, we were fine with each other. My cousin grew up with 2 teapot yorkies (about 15lbs) and they were bred a few times when she was very young, again they were fine. We were abnormal children though, we were handling ceramics at extremely young ages too. My mom bought a 12lb poodle for me when I was 7.
My yorkie likes kids, she kisses my friend's kid to death when she comes over. My yorkie is almost 2 and my friend's kid is 8.
I didn't have too much trouble with training, I just hard to learn to work with my yorkie's quirks, for example she needs privacy to go potty. Yorkies can be hard to train because they're very smart and stubborn.
As for size, I like the 5-10lb range. I'd probably aim 7-15 if I had a kid though. My yorkie is 7lbs, she's small, but not so small that she's super fragile. I didn't like it when she was under 4lbs. |
