When I crate my dogs during the day, I always have water available in their crate - no matter the size of the crate. One never knows - plans go astray, accidents happen.
At home I have larger crates that my dogs can move around in. I have crated up to 6hrs (rarely) but usually my max I work with is around 4hrs.
