Once his surgery healed, we kept him in the belly band and also kept all eyes on him every minute he wasn't in the crate. At first he would mark/pee right through the band but gradually we noticed the band stayed drier longer and longer. Its been 6-7 weeks now and we are all but done with the band. I still don't trust him when I have to leave him alone for a bit, but generally the band is still dry when I come back. I absolutely DO NOT trust him when I take him anywhere else, as he will still try to mark. I don't know that will ever change.

Thanks for sharing your experience!!!! Like you, I'm doubtful the behavior will change but still hopeful anyway - I'm an optimist so what can ya do...

Teddy doesn't mark with the band and he must do it so quickly without it because the spot he marks is RIGHT in front of my face and I've only caught him twice. The evidence, however, suggests that he's marked far more than just twice. It's just tiny drops which are on the door surrounds and never makes it to the carpet like a stream would, for example. The only substantial amount was found on the bannister upstairs where the cat was and only once after the mailman. Otherwise, just tiny drops that one would HARDLY notice unless he was caught doing it - which he was!!

I don't know about neutering. I know that it doesn't guarantee it will stop the marking. If it wasn't for Teddy's size and breeder advice and vet opinion, I would have had him fixed a long time ago. It's hard to just disregard all of the advice and I'm annoyed I took it all, too! CONFLICT!!
