Here are some more ideas (in fact I had another thread here somewhere on all the places you can take your doggies for initial and on-going socialization.

1. A front porch your dog on lead, and you sit out together and watch the world go by. Eventually you have a cuppa and read your book and or newspaper. Initially for some month(s) you need to be alert and watchfull and take the opportunity to correct un-wanted behaviour - but first you try to set your dog up for success. For eg: you see a walker coming towards you with a dog in tow - now is the time to practice sit/beg for a yummy treat, and over reward - continue practicing the command until the walker goes by. Hopefully your dog ignores the walkers - no barking - no lunging etc. If your dog is ignoring the walkers - you say Oh Good IGNORE good IGNORE. If your dog does not ignore - then correct with your voice the unwanted behaviour.
I really really like the leads I have that I can leash up one end around a tree trunk or the railing and the other end of the leash has a slotted space for me to slip one hand through.

I will try to find my other posting on this.
