First of all it is not true that most dogs do not strain after bladder surgery. I have had a few pups with bladder surgery and that was one of the first things I was told...that they will look like they are straining.

As for the length of time, I will say that I "think" it was 2 - 3 weeks, but not positive on that. Four weeks does sound like a long time, but the fact that they have examined him and found nothing remarkable makes me think that maybe all is ok.....just taking time.

If it were infection from the surgery, surely by now there would be a temperature elevation.

A seond opinion cannot hurt, but first I think I would just have a frank conversation with the vet. Tell him that you are worried and mention specific concerns..maybe ask him what he thinks of a second opinion. Ask him if it doesn't sound like a lengthy period and if perhaps something is there. I love my vet but I would not hesitate to discuss a second opinion with her and look for her feedback.
