Congrats on your almost-home baby, how very exciting!! You sound like the kind of person who totally prepares ahead of time, that's awesome.
As they got older, I just found they knotted easier bc their hair got longer and finer...but as long you don't mind brushing, your kiddo will stay knot-free very easily.
I have 2 yorkie boys, and one doesn't get pee on himself at all, and the other one does...for him, I do keep his tummy trimmed down, but not shaved. Unforch, he also gets pee on his back paws too which gets smelly. No great solution for that other than a bath.
