Being from the South, I'll explain even further. Before it became an 'organized sport' the moonshine runners would soup up their cars so that they could outrun the law. Men being men (Please see Man Thread in Off Topic) it started to become a competition and eventually evolved into what it is today.

Another little tid bit that my husband told me that really surprised me. The best advertising dollar you can spend is spent at NASCAR. Evidently its pretty cheap to buy a bunch of decals or caps with your company logo, and NASCAR consumers are supposed to be the most brand loyal.

I guess it's sitting there watching all those logos go around for hours and hours. Must sort of subliminally brainwash them or something.

I don't 'do' any sports, but I find this one particularly annoying because of the noise.
