Oh yeah. We tried not crating Toki for a brief period and she did fine most of the time. But we were also finding nibble marks on our little IKEA coffee table and sometimes she would get into something she shouldn't (despite my attempts to Toki-proof the area she was in) and it worried me from a health standpoint. Hopefully you'll be able to increase the amount of time he's alone and given free roam and gradually transition to a larger area for him.
