We actually don't leave her in a crate when we're away, we leave her in our mudroom and her crate is in there for sleeping. We do let her out of the room when we get home, she will follow us around quite excited but we wait for her to calm before we acknowledge her.
She has done so well with this that she doesn't make a sound when we leave now. We still don't make a big deal out of leaving, no goodbyes, we just go and she she goes to her bed. I hope you have some success!
