My 11-year-old Yorkie was attacked in our own yard about 1.5 years ago. All her ribs were broken and she was lucky to survive. A few months after the attack, she was diagnosed with renal failure which could have been from going into shock and the strong medications she was taking for several months. I put her on Royal Canin LP diet for a few months. She did fine at first, but then stopped eating. I was told she was dying. I saw a holistic vet who felt her main problem was pancreatitis based on her lab results. With acupuncture and a change in diet (Primal) she started eating and gained some weight. She suddenly went downhill 2 weeks ago and stopped eating, possibly from gum disease or abscess tooth. She has bounced back after receiving IV fluids and antibiotics. I have an appointment with a vet dentist in 2 weeks to see how to deal with her mouth issues. In the meantime, I don't know what to feed her as low protein diets often have too much fat which aggravates pancreatitis and needs to gain weight (dropped from 7.5 to 5.5 lbs).
