I bought a postal scale and weigh them about once a month. If they're gaining, I cut back on food. If they're losing, I add more.

For my 5 pound, 5-year-old girl, I give 12 pieces of kibble and one teaspoon of home-cooked (either meat, chicken or fish mixed with potatoes, veggies and Dr. Pitcairn's magic powder) twice a day.

For my 10-pound male, I give 24 pieces of kibble and one tablespoon of homecooked twice a day.

They also get a lot of treats during the day, so I've cut down on food because of that. Now, if they gain, I cut back on treats. I don't want to cut back on food any more.
