I personally don't like the guillotine style clippers...they cut too much off bc you can't see the nail...
I like the small scissor type made for cats or other small animals. It looks like this:

You can start by clipping tiny slivers @ a time. Make sure to look @ the tip of the nail & stop when you see a black spot...beyond that is the quick.
