Its been a really long time since I have made a posting on here. I am at my wits end with my 7 year old yorkie. He is about 7 lbs. One-he is the alpha dog to two 14 year old golden retrievers and he gets very angry when we want to show attention to the goldens and not him. He starts to growl and bite. Two- he has had no formal obedience training. My husband thinks he can just be a dog and have the run of the house. He is not socialized at all. Three- He bits strangers. I have to make sure he is locked up in his crate or in the house if someone enters the backyard or comes over.
The incident that pushed me to come on here today was I had heard he was in the house. He was supposed to be outside. So I was not dressed nor did I hear or see anyone in the yard. He was pawing at the door because he wanted out. The gardeners were here cutting and trimming the grass in the front yard. He HATES the lawn mower noise and the trimmer motor noise. He barks at them everyday they are here. Anyway, I open the door and he took off to the side of the house where he could see out front. I then came upstairs and then heard the gate open and close to the back yard. He was still barking at them. I went down stairs and called him over and over to come inside. He finally shut his mouth long enough to come. I was so mad because I didn't know there was someone in the backyard. My dad had a couple of friends over a few minutes before all this and I thought they just wanted to visit with my dog and left him in the house. I just hope that he didn't bite anyone and that they would have come to the door to report it if that had happened. I don't want to get sued or worse have to put him down by court order because he hurt someone. He has bitten people and drawn blood. Luckily no one was seriously hurt and they were close friends or relatives.
So now my question:
What do I do to stop this aggressive behavior?
Do I start taking him to the parks and socializing him with other dogs and people?
How do I get him to stop biting strangers? He won't do it at the groomers....I think its only when we are around or on the property.
