Unhappy back legs - hip issues

When we first got our yorkie at 6 wks old, when he ran, he ran like a rabbit in the sense that his back legs and behind would sort of bounce up and down like a rabbit. At the time we thought nothing of it; thought it was cute actually. A few years ago, the vet. told us that there was an issue with his back legs (likely born that way) and that he may eventually require surgery as he may become paralyzed. Again at the time, thought nothing of it as he was running, walking, jumping etc. with no issues. The last few mths however, our Peanut is now going to be 6 next mth., occasionally we've noticed that he is not able to get up on his back legs sometimes only one leg, the other one is like paralyzed but it lasts for maybe 15 minutes then he's ok. I just wondered if anyone has ever given glucosamine or something of that sort to Yorkies; wondered if perhaps there is some kind of natural remedy I can give him to help his hips and postpone the surgery.

Thanks, Gisele
