I had the same problem. You can either put the litter box up high or get a lij with a opening for it. You can buy a little box with a lid at walmarts. In my case I got the litter box with the lid and then I turned the side with the opening towards the corner of the walls.. I left just enough room for the cat to get to the opening. That solved the problem for me. I didn't really have a place up high to put the litter box. Dutch isn't really agile so she has no clue on how to get to the opening. The litter box is too heavy for her to push so she just kinda quit trying to figure out how to get to it.
