I went through that with Shaina. After 12.5 very healthy years and then two years of heart problems, I knew it was time-she gave me signs. But it does break your heart. And afterward, the first time I saw the back gate open to the alley, I panicked, wanting to rush out and close it before she got out. Then I remembered and thought, "Oh, it doesn't matter anymore." And it made me even sadder... It's the little things.
