I would suggest to look for older dogs and not puppies. Are the ones you looking for puppies? I also agree to look into rescues. A lot of people think all dogs in rescue either have behavioral problems or health problems but I can tell you first hand that is not the case. I have been fostering for about 5 years and every single one I got was physically healthy, just not in the right family. Only one I had had bladder stones but once we got her fixed up, she was the biggest cuddle bug ever.
Most rescue dogs will be about $300-500 and will already come spayed/neutered and UTD on shots.
Research everything and everyone. Google rescues, breeders, etc. There are a lot of scammers out there. Good luck in your search.
