I'm so funny. If its not dishwasher safe/friendly then I probably wouldn't buy it. I've never had one and the link provided seems like others aren't too keen on the cool idea of a pet fountain.
I use stainless steel bowls and put ice cubes in the water. The water actually stays cool throughout the day even though its still.
