First what I would suggest is that you wait until your current is at least one year old - most especially if you want a boy or decide on a boy, then you have gone ahead already with her spay. Also she should be housebroken and have basic obedience commands b*mostly* by then.
The other thing to remember is that the first year of owning is usually the most expensive what with the vaccinations and spaying et al. Also waiting until one year old you will have a little better idea if your current gal is healthy.

If you want to read a lot about spay and neuter, I can link a thread for you that has lots of information about studies done. It is a topic worthy of your attention as is the vaccination schedule.
For all pet owners I say when owning two sexes of dogs, that one dog should be spayed or neutered. Frankly overall the female for most breeds is the obvious choice to spay. The benefits/risks for females slightly favor spaying. Also the pet owner does not have to worry about keeping her safe from being bred.
