Brody had a 95 lb brother a year old when he went to live with his first family as a puppy. They were not companions in a true sense due to the size and age differences. He came home with me at 14 months old. A couple months later, we puppy sat our friend's ex,-show Shih Tzu puppy. After she went home, Brody would just lie on the floor where her kennel sat, looking sad and forlorn. I knew he needed a companion like him. We got Mia when both Brody and Mia were 17 months old, and they have been best friends since the moment they met. I cannot say that is how it would be for you should you choose to get a companion...just how it was for us, and how I decided it was best for him.
