I would say that $1200 is about average, Maybe a bit more or a little less. No one should be paying much more than $1500 for a pet quality dog no matter what additional expenses are incurred by the breeder. Charging extra for a pet that may look a little more extreme is price gouging no matter who is doing it.
If a breeder is trying to meet their expenses through the sale of their pet stock then they should not be doing it. The money brought in by puppy sales should not be what a breeder is depending on to conduct a proper breeding program. Puppy sales should only be a supplement to the program.
