Default Diabetes/Food

One of our 12 year old Yorkies was recently diagnosed with diabetes - his levels were on the high side. We've had him on insulin for about 2 weeks now and last night had to bring him to the emergency hospital as he looked very uncomfortable and threw up his food. They said he keytones had shown up in his urine so we left him there to get stabilized until we can bring him home.

He has been eating very well and a lot! We increased his food as we wanted to see him put some weight back on but that wasn't the smartest thing to do with the insulin. For pretty much his entire life we have fed him Cesar wet food with Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier kibble. Not sure if we should change his (and that would mean our other 12 year old Yorkie) diet to a higher protein brand.

Have been reading all over the internet and several brands were recommended by others and wanted to check here how others handled food (and treats) for their Yorkies with diabetes. Thanks!
