Just don't go over to that part of it, it's marked on the map as (if I remember correctly) "dog town" and is off to the side and not in the middle of it all. The whole thing is so large that we spent two days walking and we still didn't get to see it all and didn't set foot in that part. If you're only going for the day you won't have any trouble avoiding it. Have fun!
