My Dear, your idea of very small area and a 4 month old puppies is very different. This is your first mistake in that you think in relation to what is comfortable for you for space. A young puppy is more comfortable in a small area. I have proved this time and again that they house break easier and quicker if they are not allowed to have a large area. I am not saying to keep a puppy crated , just confined to one small or med sized room and they will go to one spot to relieve thamselves. Put the pee pad some where he goes and be consistent no matter how much YOU want him with you all over the house- Keep him confined unless you are willing to put him on a leash and keep him attached to you so you can grab him and get him to the pad before he pees. If you are going to let him have the run of the place at this age he will probably not get the hang of it till he is much older if ever. This is experience of many years and many many puppies.
