I alternate "the extras". One week I bathe, trim hair on body, face, paws. The next week I bathe, trim ears and clip nails, and may touch up previous weeks trim if I notice any problem areas or uneven cuts.
An entire full grooming, like you said, just takes too long and requires too much time on the grooming table at one go.
