Goodness - Maybe next year suggest no gifts! Boy that woman is truly thoughtless. I don't know about you, but if I know someone does not like something I always provide an alternative if I must have that what-ever.
Or you could make a point and pack a lunch for yourself and your child next year if you are invited for lunch
