My Gus is 2 years old and is 3 lbs and he can hold it for a very long time. I have left him home alone for up to 7 hours at a time with a pee pad and usually he'll hold it till we get home. I don't like it when he holds it in for so long so we do potty breaks like every 3 to 4 hours. When he was a puppy I would take him out every hour. He wouldn't go every time but most of the time he did. I wouldn't know if bigger dogs hold it for longer or not so I can't help you in that case. We've had both big and little dogs but once the one big dog got older he was a mostly outside dog. So I don't know how often he went.
