Never too young or too old to teach tricks. I started right away with Uni and did training during mealtimes so she would be hungry (interested). Only do one trick for several days until he really gets it. Don't try to do like three at the same time, it's confusing.
Just remember, put food in front of the nose and move your hand with the treat to how you want the head to move. The body will follow.
