Don't be afraid of anesthesia. You have to have a respect for it and know that there is a very small risk to it but it should not prevent you from doing necessary medical treatments for Chloe. I have one elderly dog with liver and kidney disease who is a higher risk for anesthesia. She had a dental two months ago and I didn't worry about the anesthesia. I felt it was more important to her overall health to clean her teeth (and they were not that bad). I believe good oral care (home care and professional care when warranted) can really prolong their lives! I know Chloe is very young but if she is starting to have yellow and tartar on her teeth then she may need a dental in the next 6 mos to a year. Talk with your vet in advance so you won't be so nervous about what they are doing. I stopped worry about procedures and anesthesia a while ago. Anesthesia is the tool they need to help our dogs! |
I really hope the Sonicare will help keep her away from the anesthesia for a while. I was reading some posts about it on here and there have been a few people who had good results. I'm hoping it will give good results for Chloe, too. I'm just glad that she at least likes to brush her teeth as a bedtime routine every night. That's 1 thing I'm really glad that I did since the very first day she came home. As soon as the vet told me Yorkies have bad teeth I ran to the store to buy a toothbrush, lol.
