New Morkie puppy help/tips Hey y'all! I'm new here and have been lurking for a while. I have some questions. I got a 9 week old Morkie puppy, Piper, on Friday. I'm really really struggling with potty training. She doesn't get it at all! I know its only Tuesday and I need to be patient but I think I just need some reassurance.
I started Saturday and Sunday with potty pads because the person I got her from said she shouldn't be outside until her last set of shots. She will never use them on her own and I have to catch her in the act and move her to them, when she finishes on the pads I give her a treat.
Monday I spoke to the vet and they said she should be fine outside (she got her second set of shots 12/8) just don't bring her in areas where there are a ton of dogs so I have been bringing her to the same patch of grass each time now. She has only peed outside 2 times, and when she does... more treats and praise! Typically though I stay outside for about 15 minutes while she just plays in the mini patch of grass and the second I bring her in, pee or poop beginning no where near the pee pad! I'm getting so frustrated!
I work 8 hour days so I have an ex pen I keep her in with pee pads and come play a little at lunch and bring her out and I keep her in her crate at night. She does very well in the crate at night and normally only whines once to go out to pee in the middle of the night, no messes in the crate so far which is wonderful!
Sorry so long winded, just wanted to give some background. How do I get her to want to potty outside? Keep in mind I can't bring her too many places or let her venture too far because I live in an apartment complex so I have chosen a place not many dogs go near at all. I'm also on the third floor so when I see she's running around to go I have to grab her, put her harness on (which is its own stuggle haha), and carry her down so I don't know if that has some impact.
Help! I love this little girl but I'm so frustrated and losing hope! I know its only been a few days but a little reassurance may be all I need I guess! |
