Yes a belly band can help but is not be a sure way of prevention by any means. You need to be very vigilant in keeping them separated and the belly band or some sort of cover on your female at all times when they are together. You can not take your eyes off of them for a minute even during potty time because that is all it will take. Its probably even best if you keep one or the other preferably your female caged or behind a gate until she is through with her heat. If you cage your male be prepared for him to bark and whine if the female is not within eyes view. There will be a time when they will do whatever it takes to mate. Usually days 10-15 of her heat because this is the time when she can become pregnant but it can be earlier or later as well. So, you must keep them separated.

If you do not want an accidental breeding than you need to find a sure way to prevent it. Also make sure that others in the home must keep them separated also.
