I second the IRIS pen idea
Our little guy is 7 months old and we got him in August as well. The pen is large enough for a food/water dish set-up, the IRIS pee pad holder and his sleeping kennel. That gives him some more room to stretch his legs etc.
We no longer use it during the day when we're at work and just gate him in the main living room, but we do use it at night for bedtime. It's become the routine and I think he's happier in his bed/kennel for the nighttime hours
