My question is, how do I keep her safe from my male dog? I been taking turns keeping them caged because he's hunting her like prey. He will follow her none stop when I let them out (watching them of coarse). He has also gotten aggressive with us if we touch Prada. He has bitten my son and daughter ( no broken skin) and has tried to bite me twice. This is VERY unusual because my Polo is the sweetest lil Maltese ever. It's Prada that's the wild one. Is this natural behavior for a male dog to act around a female in heat? Oh yeah I've been putting Prada on onesies also just to be extra careful. Is there anything else I can do? |
I am so sorry to see you feel that you have to explain why, to forum members, that your girl isn't spayed just to ask a question. So sad to feel you need to 'ward off' an 'attack' before it happens just to get a few opinions, answers, and/or assistance with an issue. I hope no one ever again must feel this way but instead feel they can post freely in a friendly, helpful environment.
A male dog's behavior can change radically around females in heat, and yours are very close together being in the same house. Females change too, but my experiences have been that their normal behavior returns when the heat is over, thankfully...at least mine did. I hope you can hang in there til it's over, with some sanity left.
