What meds have you tried besides steroids? Bc there is also Atopica, Apoquel, Temaril-P. Atopic and Apoquel can often be miracle drugs for these allergy kiddos.
Are they year round allergies? If yes, then Atopcia, Apoquel, or allergy testing/shots/drops are your best bets. If seasonal, then steroids are not a bad idea, despite their downside.
Another things...given you're seeing the combo of recurrent skin and ear issues, coupled with hair loss --
please read this and see if there are any other symptoms of Cushings, which can result in all 3 of those symptoms plus many more diffuse symptoms.
