Our nearly 8-year-old yorkie, Sargie, has taken to going after my husband whenever he knows he is going to kiss me (either goodnight or good morning). My husband says he is being overly protective of me. When he comes back into the bedroom in the morning, for example, the dog wakes up and goes up to the pillow to keep him away, and will try to nip, which he never does with anyone, usually. We've had him since he was 4 months old, and he only started this in the past year.

However, he loves my husband, and usually wags that tail and licks my husband's face (which he rarely does with me).

I thought the dog was being overprotective of me AND jealous of my husband getting attention from me, but now I am wondering if he is jealous of me and not my husband - he doesn't want my husband to show attention to me instead of to him!

By the way, if I initiate the kiss, Sargie doesn't bat an eyelash.

I know many Yorkie owners have this sort of issue...overly protective or jealousy (and of whom) or both?
