This may sound odd, but if your dog is registered with the AKC, they may be willing to forward a letter to them, if you send a stamped self addressed envelope with the letter to forward.
I would call them to confirm they're willing to do this. I know they told me they would be willing to do that for me when I lost contact with Pixie's breeder, but fortunately he actually got in touch with me before I sent the letter to the AKC.
