Personally, I would never fly a dog in cargo in the United States. No Stateside carrier has a strong enough history of successfully transporting animals...there have been way to many injuries and deaths IMO.
I would fly out to get my puppy and fly back with it, if I were buying out of State. If i absolutely could not fly myself, i would hire a courier to fly with my pup.
I drove three hours to get ZoE and another three to bring her home.
