Thanks, everyone. I took him to the vet first thing this morning and she said she's never seen this before and has no idea. She checked an expert database she has access to and still came up relatively empty handed. She asked me to email the pictures to her so she can be in touch with colleagues. Her working differentials are something abrasive (licking something hard and rough), licking something with harsh chemicals, allergic reaction to eating something, delayed allergic reaction to medication from a couple months ago, autoimmune disease.

She told me to check around for anything prickly he may be chewing, and wait to see what happens. So, I guess I'll wait to see what happens and hope it clears up on its own.
