I use the real small anti snag bands from the dollar stores. They come in packages of 1000. I haven't noticed any breakage of hair with these. I usually can get them out easily but if they get hung up I have a little tiny pair of scissers with a hook on the end that cuts it out. These work really well for me. I use the bows with alligator clips an clip just in front of the band.
