I'm not a vet but I would have them check him for Cushing disease. I had dachshund who ended up have Cushing and he too looked like he swallowed a bowling ball and gained a tremendous amount of weight. The weight gain was mostly all in his stomach. Has Bailey lost any hair around the stomach or back area? Hershey was around 7 years old when he was finally diagnosed with it. Cushing disease is manageable with meds.
