If the discharge is covering more than the inner corner of the eye, I would have your vet examine your pup's eye to rule out inflammation or injury. Sometimes these things are difficult to see, especially if you don't know what you are looking for.

Does your pup scratch or rub the eye? Does he have any redness or irritation? Gently lift his lid to look at the white part of the eye and look at the lid. Is he getting hair in his eye?
