Again food allergies are very rare so switching isn't going to do anything if it is environmental which most allergies are. You don't know this dogs history to know if they have been over vaccinated. The dog dosen't nessisarily even need steroids right from the get go because of itching sometimes just an allergy medicine can make the difference. Unless it's gotten to the point of a skin infection and then nothing is going to help but antibiotics. I have been down this road I have a dog who is 7 and who as had environmental allergy's her whole life and recently developed food allergy's. Many many many dogs can digest grains with no issues. I'm guessing you are saying this because of " wild" dogs and wolves not really having access to grains in the wild but yorkies are far from wild dogs and are definitely not wolves and dogs body's have evolved from what " wild" dogs were fed to what they can eat and digest now. Going grain free is a choice but it's not going to clear up environmental allergy's and the only way to know it is for sure a food allergy's is by an elimination diet.
