With all due respect. We love our dog to the extent that we have purchased the City dog license for it which links to all the pertinent data (dog name, breed, owner name, address, phone number, CALL COLLECT, etc.); (b) We had an aluminum dog tag made for about $8 or so that has the dog name and breed on one side and OUR info on the other; (c) we must have our dog vaccinated for rabies regularly and the rabies "tag" also contains all of the pertinent information. If this was the case (I don't know) then the folks that stole the dog from private property were (a) trespassing; (b) trespassing for the purpose of a criminal offense; (c) committing a theft (felonious); (d) pile it on. They should have been charged and punished.... to do what they did was obviously with malice and forethought and probably to meet a quote (be kinda neat to find out). I would waste zero time in filing a civil lawsuit for a whole variety of things, the least of which would be theft and all the laws surrounding same ("trespass with felonious intent?"... varies from state to state). Someone comes up on my porch I'm going to talk if I can. Then I'm going to take action to protect 'a member of my family and myself from imminent grievous bodily harm and/or death and/or kidnapping (dognapping?)'. Doesn't matter. Know your rights and enforce them. Lord knows that law enforcement has enough on their plate and this would be considered a minor annoyance at best. In most states, someone enters a farming operation with such intent and you have the right to use whatever force is necessary to protect yourself and your property. I handful of flowers just does not cut it in my opinion. This is a significant offense and needs to be prosecuted in order to be put to an end. Our problem in North America, and in particular stateside (I am a dualie) is that our laws are not enforced yet the public wants more laws to protect them. Get OVER it! Law enforcement is not here to protect you. It has become a machine and duty belts should be standardized to hold a chalk holder methinks. With all due respect to the many who put their lives in harms way to protect us. At the LEAST, these bozos should have been dismissed summarily and for cause. No separation, just a nice "goodbye" and a footprint on their rear ends.
