We used this technique with Peanut when he was younger(crying out and stopping play) It worked really well. They seem to understand quickly that biting hard ends their play time and they really do not want that. We would just sit quietly and ignore him for a few minutes and then start play again when he calmed down. You really need to "cry out" when they bite too hard.
